Teluk Cenderawasih National Park (TCNP) is located on Papua Island and has been open since 1993. Administratively, TCNP is situated in the Manokwari district, West Papua province. TCNP is the largest national marine park in Indonesia.
TCNP covers an area of 1,453,500 hectares and consists of coastline (0.9%), land (3.8%), coral reef (5.5%), and sea (89.8%). It has 14 kinds of flora that are protected by the Indonesian government. Besides that, in this TCNP there are 36 species of birds, 18 of which are protected birds. There are 198 kinds of molluscs, 209 kinds of fish, and several kinds of sea turtles.
The TCNP sea is also home to whales and dolphins. These two kinds of fish are safe to live in TCNP sea because there are no whale hunters or dolphin hunters allowed there and the sea still has abundant food available for those fish. While in TCNP, you can enjoy many interesting tourism objects which are spread in TCNP.
In TCNP there are Nusrowi, Yoop, and Mioswaar islands where you can go swimming and diving while enjoying the beautiful underwater views. Also, if you get lucky, you can see whales and dolphins wandering around.
Visitors and tourists coming into TCNP are free of charge. However, any domestic tourist who wants to explore TCNP is supposed to report to the TCNP administrative office in Manokwari in order to get a license called Simaksi. An international tourist wanting to explore TCNP must get a license from the Ministry of Forestry.
You can get to TCNP from Manokwari city, which is 95 kilometers away. By a motor-boat you can get to TCNP in 2.5 hours. Just be aware of the boat trip schedule: the boat only goes to TCNP three times in a week.
